In this passage of God’s Word, we see Jesus sending Peter and John to prepare the Passover meal, where Jesus will institute the Lord’s Supper. When taking it a look at what Jesus tells Peter and John to do, it can appear like a ridiculous request. However, By taking a close look at this encounter, we can learn how to be faithful to what God calls us to do, even if it seems ridiculous.

We Must Realize:

1. It’s not wrong to ask God for guidance
Luke 22:9, James 1:5-6, Prov. 3:5-6, John 16:13, Matt. 7:7-11

2. God often prepares others to fulfill the same mission
Luke 22:14-23, 5:1-11, Rom. 5:1-5

3. Steps of obedience often have bigger impact than we initially realize
Luke 22:6, 40, Rom. 12:1-2, 1 Cor. 10:13, 15:33, 1 John 1:9

4. Being obedient in the future, starts with being obedient now
Luke 22:8, Gal. 6:9, 2 Tim. 4:7, Phil. 3:14, Acts 20:24, Col. 3:23, 2 Pet. 1:3
Reflection Questions

1. Had you ever heard this taught before? What stood out to you?

2. Have you ever felt like God called you to do something ridiculous before? If so, what was it? Were you faithful to what He called you to do?

3. In this story, God obviously prepared the master of the house so he could prepare a room. As we talked about that and how God often will call people to fulfill the same mission, albeit in different capacities, did God bring to mind any situations in your life where you’ve experienced that happening? If so, what happened?

4. Peter and John didn’t start their journey with Jesus in this passage. That started years earlier. At the end of the message, we talked about how being obedient in the future, starts with being obedient now. What do you need to do in order to obey God in this season of your life?

5. What is your biggest take away about how this passage affects your life? What do you need to work on? Who can you share this with and ask you to keep you accountable to accomplishing this?

Groups

We believe that our faith grows best when we surround ourselves with other believers. That’s why we encourage everyone to be a part of one of our groups, where we can intentionally share our lives with one another. There is a Sunday School group meeting on Sunday mornings before Service at 9:30. Our small groups are also in the process of starting for the fall. If you would like to be a part of one, please reach out to Pastor Josh.
