Meet Job [April 24, 2022] Greg Burlile
SOME BACKGROUND ON THE BOOK OF JOB
1: Job was most likely a contemporary of the patriarchs like Abraham
+ His wealth was measured in flocks and herds
+ He offered sacrifices w/o the aid of a priest
+ He interacted with historical people like the Sabeans and Chaledeans.
2: Job is not fiction.
+ James 5:11 mentions him as someone to imitate as if was a historical person
+ In Ezekiel 14:14, Job is mentioned right along side such men as Noah and Daniel. Why would you mention a fictitious man next to two well known historical figures in the Bible.
3: The author of Job is not named
4: The structure of the book
Job and what happened to him (1:1-2:10)
Job’s friends and their “conversations” with him (2:11-31:40)
The answers to Job (32:1-42:6)
Conclusion (42:7-17)
