PROMISES MADE, BELIEVED, AND KEPT - Romans 4:9-15

PROMISES MADE, BELIEVED, AND KEPT - Romans 4:9-15

My dad recently gave me his old car. He told me to come get it and it was mine. I believed him. I went to pick it up, and after doing the title work, drove it home. A promise was made. The promise was believed. The car was received. God makes promises to us. Do you believe Him?

Romans 4:9-15

I. Abraham was blessed with righteousness because he believed the promises God made before he obeyed God’s command- vv. 9-10
Abraham’s faith came before he was circumcised (Genesis 15:6; 17:24)
II. Abraham was blessed with a sign and seal of the righteousness he received by faith- vv. 11- 12
He is the father of those who believe apart from circumcision
He is the father of the circumcised who believe
III. Abraham’s descendants receive an inheritance because they believe the promise God made- vv. 13-15
The promise was not based on law, but faith
Those who try to inherit based on law instead of faith will discover that they only earn punishment
Bottom Line: God’s promises are only too good to be true if you don’t believe them

Questions To Consider

1. Explain how the timing of Abraham’s faith matters to us today. How does the timing apply to any discussion of faith versus works?
2. How does God keeping His promises to Abraham encourage you? What could it motivate you to do?
3. What promises from God encourage you the most?

Melodic Line Of Romans

Jesus is the prophesied and revealed Messiah whose gospel-accomplishing life, death, and resurrection saves His beloved people, chosen out from all the world, to an obedience of faith, for the glory of His name.
