Easter is the season that follows the Lent beginning on Easter Sunday and ending on Pentecost.

The historical practice of preachers was to use this season to explain the mysteries of the faith to those recently added to the faithful by baptism at the Easter Vigil. Their preaching (known as the mystagogical catechesis) taught things the mind has difficulty comprehending. It is no surprise that the writings of John have become associated with this period. -
Clayton J. Schmit

Thomas was undoubtedly not a doubter!
1. John 11:16 - Let us also go, that we may die with him.
2. John 14: - Lord we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?
3. John 21:28 - My Lord and my God.

Thomas refused to place his faith in an empty tomb. He would only place his faith in a risen Christ. Signs and wonders last for a moment. A relationship with Christ for eternity.

Someone who places their life in their faith in God may lose it. But someone who places their faith in God himself will never. Simone Weil from Gravity and Grace

If instead of resting in God by faith, we simply rest in the proposition or formula…it will lead to anxious hair-splitting arguments, to controversy, and ultimately to hatred and division. - Thomas Merton from New Seeds of Contemplation

How to get off the faith roller coaster that seeks the peaks and shuns the valleys.
1. You may not be ready.
2. Awareness of the roller coaster and the better way.
3. Routine(s) - spiritual disciplines when we feel like it and when we don’t. Refuse to quit when we “get something from them” and especially when they seem a waste of time.
4. Long-term perspective - Hurry ruins saints as well as artists. Thomas Merton from New Seeds of Contemplation
5. Go easy on yourself because God is doing the work and not you!
