https://scriptures.live/golfWhy do we call it Good Friday?
If someone took your punishment and paid your debt – you would be grateful, and it would be a great thing…God did that for us through Jesus His Son.
Maybe we should call it Great Friday!
Here is a timeline of Good Friday with key points:
They arrested Him in the Garden of Gethsemane late Thursday night early Friday morning. Matthew 26:47-55
All of the disciples abandoned Him – Matthew 26:55
They arrested Him and took Him before Caiaphas the high priest and the whole Sanhedrin – Matthew 26:56-66
They spit on Him and struck Him – Matthew 26:67-68
Peter denied knowing Jesus then the rooster crowed…just as Jesus had predicted - Matthew 26:69-75
Judas, overcome by grief of what he’d done, took his own life – Matthew 27:1-10
Jesus was taken before Pilate – Matthew 27:11-14
Pilate finds no cause for Jesus to be crucified and offers them either Jesus or Barabbas the criminal to be freed – The crowd shouts to free Barabbas and to crucify Jesus – Matthew 27:15-23
Pilate washes his hands of the responsibility, and the crowd says to let Jesus’ blood be on them, Jesus was then flogged – Matthew 27-24-26
Matthew 27:26-31 – The soldiers mock Jesus and spit on Him and struck Him and placed a crown of thorns on Him
Matthew 27:32 – Simon from Cyrene was made to help Jesus carry His cross to Golgotha
Jesus was nailed to the cross and placed between 2 thieves and the soldiers mocked Him and cast lots for His clothes
