Luke 24:36-49

In this passage of God’s Word we see Jesus appearing to His disciples after His resurrection. At first, they are in a state of disbelief. However, after the disciples experience Jesus first hand, Jesus then takes the opportunity to teach them what has happened, and what will happen. By taking a closer look at this story we can see that following Jesus wholeheartedly involves realizing that:

1. It’s not enough to hear others’ account of Jesus, we have to experience Him personally
Luke 24:37-43, Psalm 46:10, John 17:3, 1 John 3:6,

2. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, has always been God’s plan to redeem mankind
Luke 24:44-47, John 5:46, 2 Tim. 3:16, Gen. 3:14-15

3. The natural outcome of following Jesus, is to spread the good news
Luke 24:48-49, Matt. 28:19-20, Phil. 4:19, 1 Pet. 3:15
Reflection Questions

1. It took living alongside Jesus and experiencing Him personally for the disciples to realize who Jesus was and that He had risen from the dead. How well do you personally experience Him every day? What would help you to do that better? What would help you grow in your relationship with God?

2. The disciples had to experience Jesus firsthand in order to hear from Him. Have you ever had a season of your life where you had heard of others’ experience with Jesus, but you hadn’t really ever personally experienced life with Jesus? What eventually led you to live with Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, and not just through others’ experiences?

3. After the disciples experienced living alongside Jesus, and realized who was with them, Jesus immediately taught them that they are to tell others that He had risen from the dead. How well do you tell others about your experience with Christ? How can you better help others to personally accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior? Who can keep you accountable to that?

4. What is your biggest take away about how this passage affects your life? What do you need to work on? Who can you share this with and ask you to keep you accountable to accomplishing this?

Groups

We believe that our faith grows best when we surround ourselves with other believers. That’s why we encourage everyone to be a part of one of our groups, where we can intentionally share our lives with one another. There is a Sunday School group meeting on Sunday mornings before Service at 9:30. Our small groups are also in the process of starting for the fall. If you would like to be a part of one, please reach out to Pastor Josh.

Workday on May 14th

We are planning to have a workday on May 14th from 9am-noon. If you are willing and able to help we would appreciate it! We are planning on cleaning the inside of the building, cleaning up the yard/landscaping, and have several other projects to complete. If you are able to help, please RSVP with pastor Josh, so that he can plan accordingly.
