Easter Sunrise
When Peter and John first go to Jesus’ tomb, they do not understand what they are really seeing. They still do not understand that Jesus was to rise from the dead. So, in verse 10, they go back to where they are staying. When we truly understand what happened at Easter, there is no going back. Easter changes our lives because it changes our eternities. What burden, addiction, or sin are you going back to that Easter can free you from?

NB: One of the criticisms that many people have of faith is that we’re gullible to believe in a dead man who came back to life.

1. Shame Definition of shame: when you look in the mirror and you don’t like what you see and you’re terrified that other people will see what you see.
- Body image issues
- Some past mistake / regret
- Some current addiction
- Some past wound: they saw you as worthless, so you assume that everyone sees you as worthless
Here’s what the resurrection does with all that: it takes all that stuff in your past – or even in your present – and says it doesn’t have to control your future!

“Justification” means “to make us righteous.” To take all the stuff that makes us feel filthy, dirty, and bad and get rid of it.

2. Doubt Doubt creeps into our lives so easily.
- A prayer isn’t answered the way we want it to be
- Someone we trust breaks that trust
- We have a question about life or faith and we can’t get an answer that satisfies
What changed their minds? What did they see? What did they experience? How did they go from broken and hopeless to believing? How did shift from “Someone took Jesus’ body” to “I will lay down my life for the truth that Jesus rose from the dead?”?
It began with the empty tomb and sprang to life when they encountered the risen Jesus! And He is still alive today!
Jesus has defeated death. And He has the power of turn the tables on our shame and doubts! Trust HIM!
The resurrection gives us a future! And when we are free from shame and our doubts are erased. That makes room for excitement and real life! Christ is risen! And there’s no going back.
