Welcome to Waymaker Church! We are so excited to have you join us today! We exist to Encounter, Live for, and Advance the Kingdom of God!
hey
Today we continue a series called We Are The Church. Last week Pastor Marcus taught on the topic of serving. How the Church was created, designed, how you and I were made specifically to serve in some capacity. We were gifted and equipped to serve the Church and to serve our family, to serve others, to serve the world around us.

Let me add this: We are never more like Christ, than when we serve.

This week we will look at the importance of the Church being Spirit-led. It doesn't happen by accident; we can miss what God is saying and doing. We can miss where the Spirit is leading us.
So there are two perspectives, two realities at war with each other within our lives. There’s the flesh, and there’s the Spirit. But as the Church, we have the Holy Spirit available to us. As the people of God we don’t have to be in the dark; we can be guided and led by the Holy Spirit in every situation.
SET YOUR SIGHTS HIGHER
We can even learn a valuable lesson from the events of Palm Sunday in regards to being led by the Spirit. When celebrating Palm Sunday, we might think of waving palm branches, or Jesus riding into Jerusalem as the Messiah. But it can also show us that if we aren’t sensitive to the Spirit today, we can miss the Messiah moving tomorrow.

Let's look at the days leading up to Palm Sunday...
People have already heard about Jesus’ teachings. They have heard how he has the power to heal the sick, to cast out demons, and to calm storms. But raising someone from the dead after they have been dead for four days - that’s power!
Now there is a reason that Jesus wants this donkey. About 500 years before this day there was a prophet named Zechariah who foretold that the messiah would one day ride into Jerusalem on a donkey. Zechariah says it in Zachariah 9:9 and then 3 of the 4 gospels point us to the prophecy.
The crowd wanted a King on a throne. Jesus wanted to be enthroned in their hearts.

They wanted to be saved from the oppression of the Roman government. Jesus came to save us from the oppression of our sin.

A riot is getting ready to break out. Everyone knows what the motives of the people are. Everyone including the Romans knows why the people are waving palm branches. That is why the Pharisee’s shout out.
The people are cheering him on. All he has to do to get things going is get off his donkey and give a speech and the revolution will begin. But Jesus doesn’t give a speech. Instead the Bible tells us that Jesus began to weep.
Why was Jesus weeping when everybody else was celebrating? The answer is simple. Jesus was weeping because he was God. He could foresee the future. He knew there was going to be disaster with Israel, and He knew there would be spiritual disaster with us...If we weren't walking in the Spirit. We’ve got to set our sights higher.

Jesus is right in front of us. He has sent His helper the Holy Spirit to be our advocate - to guide us and direct our lives.

How do we stay sensitive? How do we walk in the Spirit as the Church?
1. THROW OFF SIN.
2. SOW TO THE SPIRIT.
3. LISTEN FOR THE PROMPTINGS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
