The Last Supper is an important event in the history of Christianity because it immediately precedes Jesus’ betrayal and arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. It is of significance because of Jesus’ identification of the bread and wine as symbolic of his own body and blood. They have been eaten and drunk in memory of him, and his sacrifice, ever since.
How important it is to remember that Jesus knew he would be betrayed, he told his disciples he would be betrayed, and in those last moments of the Last Supper he gives to the Church his presence in the elements of the Holy Eucharist. This, just before he weeps in agony over his burden, just before his demise. Come to church Sunday to find out what else these two completely different, but connected, events mean to us as God’s children.
