“When Christ Sits Upon The Throne”
Introduction
1. Who sits on the throne of your life?
2. Isaiah 2 when Christ sits on the throne and when He doesn’t:
Who sits on the throne of your life?
I. THE PROMISE OF CHRIST ON THE THRONE 2:2-5
“Shall” “Will” This belongs to the future in the ‘last days’. The context is when the
Messiah comes and sits on the throne in Jerusalem.
IT IS TRUE TODAY IF JESUS SITS ON THE THRONE OF YOUR LIFE:
A. His Worship 2
The Lord is lifted up.
1.The mountain of the Lord…mountain often speaks of a kingdom or government.
God’s government will be established over all the kingdoms of this world. Gentiles and Jesus will do the will of God.
2.The nations will flock to Jerusalem to worship. There will be no other form of
worship.
3. When Jesus sits on the throne we will want to worship Him.
B. His Welcome 3a
Many shall say ‘come’.
1.There will be an evident desire to learn and obey. He will teach us. We will walk in
His path.
2.(Matt. 28:19, 20) As you are going make disciples…teach them. When Jesus is on the throne there is a desire to learn, to obey and to say, “Come”. We want others to have what we have.
C. His Word 3b
1. He will teach us…we will walk in His path.
2. When Jesus sits on the throne we adjust our lives to do what God tells us.
D. His Witness 4a
1. He shall judge. Jesus will be the righteous judge.
2. When Jesus is on the throne we become sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
E. His Weapons 4b
1. They shall beat their swords into plowshares and swords into pruning hooks…
2. When Jesus sits on the throne we stop warring. There is peace with God and peace
with others.
F. His Walk 5
Come let us walk in the light of the Lord.
1.Every man that has this hope in him purifies himself even as He is pure. (I John 3:3) Seeing, then, that all these things should be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in all holy living and godliness. (II Pt. 3:11)
2.The knowledge of future events should challenge us to be all that God would have us be.
3.There is a desire to practice the presence of God.
Who sits on the throne of your life?
II. THE PROBLEM OF CHRIST ON THE THRONE 2:6-9
Vss. 6-22 show the ‘last days’ before Christ returns...The Tribulation Period.
“Full” “Filled” there is no room for Christ. He has been pushed out. For thou hast
forsaken…because 4 reasons are given:
A. The World 6
1. Filled with customs…Israel had taken on the customs of the East…pagan ways.
2. We look like the world. We talk like the world. We think like the world.
3. They associate…their friends and associates (those who influence) are not believers.
B. The Wealth 7a
1. Full of silver and gold which was forbidden in (Deut. 17:16, 17)
2. They look successful and satisfied. Materialism…things and stuff leave no room for
Christ.
C. The Weapons 7b
1. Full of horses which was also forbidden in (Deut. 17)
2. They don’t need to trust in God to protect them. Put your trust in government.
D. The Worship 8
1. Idols…an idol is anything that takes the place of God.
2. Works of their hands and fingers…these were gods of our own design. These ‘gods’
have pushed out Jesus Christ.
Who sits on the throne of your life?
III. THE PROVOCATION OF CHRIST ON THE THRONE 2:10-18
“Upon” is “Against” One day all of our self-centered world will be gone:
A. Our Pride 10,11,17
1. We are full of ourselves. When men are humbled (brought low) God is exalted.
2. The Tribulation Period there will be fear and glory of His majesty. (10, 19, 21)
B. Our Pain 12-16
The word Upon is Against.
1. Pride In Prestige 13,14
*Oak, Cedar, Mountains, Hills These are literal and during the Tribulation they
will go.
*This is what makes us pop out our chest. It is the things we make. It is the
empires we build. Things that we think are ‘permanent’.
2. Pride In Protection 15
*Towers and walls…These are for our protection.
*Look at all of the fortresses we build around us to keep us safe.
3. Pride In Prosperity 16a
*Ships of Tarshish…this is commerce.
*We are so proud of our commerce…until it stops!
4. Pride In Pleasure 16b
*Pleasurable pursuits…all pleasant pictures.
*Pictures is a loan word from Egypt…ships of pleasure.
*Pleasure ships pictures extravagance.
He is against them because they have pushed Him out. ONE DAY THEY
ALL WILL GO!!! The Lord alone shall be exalted in that day (11, 17)
Who sits on the throne of your life?
IV. THE PERIL OF CHRIST ON THE THRONE 2:19-22
Two phrases: For…Fear the Lord and Glory of His majesty (19, 21)
A. The Fear 19,21
1. The Reaction 19a
2. The Reason 19b
*During the Tribulation: one day everything we hold dear will shake.
You can run to the rocks or You can run to the ROCK!
B. The Futility 20
Idols
1.This is the stuff they had made.
2.It was a priority…moles and bats…blindness…they love darkness. This is a picture of them.
C. The Frailty 21
1. Vss. 6-21 are all about man and man-made things.
2. Man is frail and insignificant. Man is small and temporary. He can account (take
credit) for nothing.

On what are you going to place your trust?
