In this passage of God’s Word, we see Jesus clearly spelling out what He taught in the last passage, through telling a parable. By taking a close look at this parable, we can learn more about God, and avoid the mistakes that the Old Testament people fell into.

This parable teaches us that God:

1. Created everything
Luke 20:9, Gen. 1:1-31, Ps. 104:24, 121:2, John 1:1-3, Col. 1:16

2. Gives us responsibility
Luke 20:9, 16:10, Rom. 12:6-8, Col. 3:23

3. Asks for us to sacrifice some
Luke 20:10, Duet. 15:10, 2 Cor. 9:6-7, 1 Tim. 6:17-19

4. Is gracious and keeps reaching out
Luke 20:11-12, Ps. 86:5, 15, 103:8, 116:5, 145:8

5. Is willing to sacrifice everything for us
Luke 20:13-15, John 3:16-17, Rom. 5:8, 1 John 2:2, Titus 2:14

6. Gives us ample opportunities to respond
Luke 20:10-15, 1 John 1:9, 2 Pet. 3:9, Lam. 3:21-22

7. Holds us accountable
Luke 20:16-18, 1 Cor. 3:8, Rom. 14:12, Gal. 6:1-5, Heb. 4:13
Reflection Questions

1. Had you ever heard this taught before? What stood out to you?

2. In this passage of God’s Word, it is clear that the listeners did not fully comprehend what our accountability to God looks like (see Luke 20:16). How can you better remember that you will be held accountable to God?

3. Evaluate your own life. If you continue down the path that you are on now, will you end up like the tenants of the vineyard in the parable that we talked about today? Why or why not?

4. What practical step(s) can you take to better know who God is, and avoid the mistakes of the Old Testament era, where people turned away from God?

5. What is your biggest take away about how this passage affects your life? What do you need to work on? Who can you share this with and ask you to keep you accountable to accomplishing this?

The Foster Closet

The foster closet is looking for a few volunteers that can spare two hours one Saturday a month for their open shop hours. This will be going on for the next 3 to 4 months. For more information, see April Rollf.

Groups

We believe that our faith grows best when we surround ourselves with other believers. That’s why we encourage everyone to be a part of one of our groups, where we can intentionally share our lives with one another. There is a Sunday School group meeting on Sunday mornings before Service at 9:30. Our small groups are also in the process of starting for the fall. If you would like to be a part of one, please reach out to Pastor Josh.
