WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS A PEACEMAKER?
THE MISUNDERSTANDINGS OF PEACEMAKER
THE MEANING OF PEACEMAKERS
A peacemaker is someone who is actively seeking to reconcile people to God and to one another.
Peace is the Hebrew word ‘Shalom’
The LORD bless you and protect you; the LORD make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; the LORD look with favor on you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24 - 25
‘Make’ means “to do” or “to make.”
A peacemaker is never passive.
THE SUPREME PEACEMAKER
“Prince of Peace” Isaiah 9:6b
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth.” Luke 2:14a
“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.” John 14:27
“Shalom.” "Peace to you!" Luke 24:36b
. . . to reconcile everything to Himself by making peace through the blood of His cross. Colossians 1:20b
THE TASK OF PEACEMAKING
If possible, on your part, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18
God has called you to peace. 1 Corinthians 7:15b
What can you and I do to build bridges of peace?
Talk to God
Take the first step
“So if you are offering your gift on the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift” Matthew 5:23 - 24
“"If your brother sins against you, go and rebuke him in private. If he listens to you, you have won your brother” Matthew 18:15
Tell the other person how you feel
A gentle answer turns away anger, but a harsh word stirs up wrath. Proverbs 15:1
No rotten talk should come from your mouth, but only what is good for the building up of someone in need, in order to give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29
Stop talking about the people who have hurt you to other people
THE BLESSING OF PEACEMAKING
“Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called sons of God” Matthew 5:9
The opposite of peacemakers is troublemakers
“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:2
