“Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time.” (Jonah 3:1 emphasis added)
When you get a “do-over” in life, you …
• … live your life with profound gratitude.
“8 Those who worship worthless idols have abandoned their loyalty to you. 9 But I will sing praises to you; I will offer you a sacrifice and do what I have promised. Salvation comes from the Lord!” (Jonah 2:8-9) [GNT]
• … make your life mission/calling your top priority.
“1 Once again the Lord spoke to Jonah. 2 He said, “Go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to the people the message I have given you.” (Jonah 3:1-2) [GNT]
• … don’t delay, you obey!
“So Jonah obeyed the Lord and went to Nineveh …” (Jonah 3:3a)
Delayed obedience is disobedience!
• … accept your responsibility (to warn others.)
“3 So Jonah obeyed the Lord and went to Nineveh, a city so large that it took three days to walk through it. 4 Jonah started through the city, and after walking a whole day, he proclaimed, “In forty days Nineveh will be destroyed!” (Jonah 3:3-4) [GNT]
“You are the L.I.G.H.T. of the world.” (Matthew 5:14a emphasis added)
Learn to love people.
Initiate a genuine friendship.
Go where they are.
Hear their cries.
Trust God to work.
“15bAlways be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. 16a However, do this with gentleness and respect …” (1 Peter 3:15b-16a)
• …trust God to use you.
“5 The men of Nineveh believed in God. They proclaimed a fast and dressed in sackcloth —from the greatest of them to the least. 6 When word reached the king of Nineveh, he got up from his throne, took off his royal robe, put on sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 7 Then he issued a decree in Nineveh: By order of the king and his nobles: No man or beast, herd or flock, is to taste anything at all. They must not eat or drink water. 8 Furthermore, both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth, and everyone must call out earnestly to God. Each must turn from his evil ways and from the violence he is doing 9 Who knows? God may turn and relent; He may turn from His burning anger so that we will not perish. 10 Then God saw their actions— that they had turned from their evil ways —so God relented from the disaster He had threatened to do to them. And He did not do it.” (Jonah 3:5-10)
