Jesus the Philosopher: Answers for Life
Luke 12:34-48, March 17 & 20, 2022

Prayer Requests:

Group Discussion: Choose an expensive item of some kind (BMW, Beach House, Yacht, Private Jet) and make a list of the differences of how you would behave toward it if you owned it or if someone else owned it and loaned it to you.

Read out loud: Luke 12:34-48,

As a steward of God’s resources I live in:

#1. Anticipation of Jesus return. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 35Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. 36 Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. Vs. 35-36. If we live in anticipation our treasure will reflect our heart attitude. The intensity of the anticipation is passionate and is seen in the result that the door is flung open IMMEDIATELY on the knock. Do you ever think about, talk about, pray about Jesus return and how intensely we need to reach now before He returns and there’s no more possibility? Can you think of someone you need to have a conversation with or invite to GateWay? Do you use your oikos card to remind you to pray?
#2. Alertness for Jesus return. 37 Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them. 38 Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves. Vs. 37-38. Servants of Jesus are blessed who are alert. Anyone in your group ever in the military and spend time standing guard duty and what did it mean to be alert? Do you think they were blessed for doing a good job or do you think it was expected by their superiors? What does it mean to have Jesus as your Savior and what does it mean to have Jesus as your Lord?
#3. Assurance of Jesus surprise. 39 “But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 40 You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.” Has anyone ever given you or someone in your group a surprise party and how did that go? Jesus surprise second coming will be a bigger surprise than that, so what would you like to be doing or where would you like to be when He comes?
#4. Accountability to Jesus for stewardship usage of your time, talent and treasure. Which of those 3 do you think you need to improve in most? Plan a small service project together and use some of your time for Jesus.

Family Time: Read Luke 12:42-43 and talk with your kids about a good helper/parent has great food at the right time for them. Who’s someone in the neighborhood that you could bless with a cooked meal one night this next week. Let them know and then take them a meal or invite them over for dinner.
