The world was crying out for hope and God promised his servant
Our hope is to come from the servant's teaching.
Jesus invites us to make a conscious choice to take his "yoke" and learn from him, as the best possible way to live.
The most important question of your life is "What is the foundation on which you build your life?"
Some of the "normal" foundations people build their lives on are:

- financial security
- approval from friends and family (or from social media)
- the pursuit of happiness
- the avoidance of stress
- a cause to fight for
- the pursuit of pleasure
- the pursuit of romance
Putting Jesus Christ into a worldwide competition with all known alternatives is the only way we can give our faith a chance to prove his power over the whole of life.

Dallas Willard
Jesus promises that his words are the best way to live... and that building your life on other things will cause the building of your life to crumble.
The bible is one whole story, and it makes it clear that Jesus is the fulfilment of the Old Testament and the focus of the New Testament.
Learning the Bible means learning the big story of the whole story of the bible and how it changes everything.

It is learning from Genesis 1-2 how being created in the Image of God in a world designed by God affects you now.

It is learning from Genesis 3 - the end of the Old Testament how easily we get self focussed, how we simply don't have what it takes to be God in our own right, and how despite all this the God of the universe is reaching for relationship with his creation

It is learning from the Gospels what whole life looks like and how grace entered time and space through one man who invites us to live in the truest most healthy relationship we can ever imagine.

It is learning from Acts and the writings of Paul and the other Apostles what it means to live from truth

It is learning from the last two chapters of Revelation that the story of the Bible is only partway through and that the end of the story is the incredible truth that Heaven is coming to earth and the life we experience now is going to be a pale imitation of the life we will experience there.

All these things and much more are lessons that need to sink from our head to our heart and gradually shape our lives as we seek to not just read the bible but learn it.
Discussion Question:

How long, on average, each day do you spend reading (or listening to) the bible ?

Are you satisfied with that?

Learning the bible also means memorising particular bible verses so they can be hidden in your heart, and shape you.
As a pastor, teacher, and counselor I have repeatedly seen the transformation of inner and outer life that comes simply from memorization and meditation upon Scripture. Personally, I would never undertake to pastor a church or guide a program of Christian education that did not involve a continuous program of memorization of the choicest passages of Scripture for people of all ages.
