In Matthew 5:17, Jesus makes clear that he came not to destroy the Law, but to fulfill it. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches his disciples what a "fulfilled" life looks like in practice. In this sermon series, we will be looking at key teachings from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, seeking to understand how Jesus' words apply to our lives today.

Pennington Quote:
Here is the quote that Pastor Jon referenced regarding the Kingdom of Heaven:
"The Beatitudes give us an image of the blessed ones that is just the opposite of what we would naturally value - they are poor in spirit, the persecuted, the mourning, the meek. The parables of the kingdom paint for us pictures where debtors are freely forgiven, where the smallest seed produces the largest tree, and where the last-come workers receive the same reward. Jesus' model of life shows openarmed compassion for the downtrodden, the touching of the leper, the exalting of the lowly child, the welcoming of the Gentile, and the listening ear for blind outcast beggars."

Robert Frost Poem:
Here is the short poem from Robert Frost that Pastor Jon referenced this week. This poem captures just how temporary everything in life can feel.
Nothing Gold Can Stay
Nature's first green is gold
her hardest hue to hold;
her early leaf's a flower,
but only so an hour;
Then leaf subsides to leaf;
So Eden sank to grief;
So dawn goes down to day;
Nothing gold can stay.

NEXT STEPS
1. Look at your previous month's credit card bill or expense list.
2. Itemize into categories where your money goes.
3. Make a list based on that itemization of where most of your money goes.
4. Does that list match your desire for where your heart would be?
5. Does the list reflect the Kingdom of Heaven that Jesus talks about?
6. Pray that God would bring your spending patterns in line with your desire to follow Jesus.

4. What treasures have you lost due to the passing of time?
5. Where in the Bible do you glimpses of permanence? According to the Bible, what does permanence look like?
6. Looking back on where your treasures are stored up, where would you say your heart is? Where do you want it to be?

StoneBridge Extras
Periodically, Pastor Jon does a podcast series entitled "StoneBridge Extras." StoneBridge Extras looks at themes or concepts from a scripture passage that couldn't make it into the sermon. This season, Pastor Jon looks not just at the Sermon on the Mount, but the issues it can raise for Jesus' disciples.
