1. In every relationship there are unexplainable gaps between what we expect our partners to do and what they actually do.

A. Believe the Best benefit of the doubt. “I’m sure there’s a good explanation.”
B. Assume the Worst He’s so . . . She’s so . . .He’ll never stop, She’ll never start

Two things make it difficult for us to believe the best.
1. What I see
2. Who I am

Find the most generous explanation for each other’s behavior and believe it.

To fall in love and stay in love, you must choose to believe the best.

1. If you go negative, you are undermining your own relationship.

2. Your spouse doesn’t want to disappoint you.

Fill gaps with truth instead of suspicion.

Recast weaknesses as strengths.

Bring humor into your tensions.
