God’s very nature is to give

John 3:16

Jesus talked more about giving than about any one subject

The word Give is mentioned over 1,400 times in Scripture.

That is more than double than love is mentioned!

If we don’t understand the word Give than we will be missing a key element of Who God is and what He has called us to do and to be like.

Luke 6:38

2 Corinthians 9:6-8

2 Corinthians 9:10

God established the local church – it was His idea – not man’s.

Matthew 16:18

Acts 20:28

We give because:
1.God is a giver! He ordained giving and commanded it.

Malachi 3:6-11

This was a promise and a protection!

Remember we are called to be managers of God’s money. It’s all His! He owns everything and He has entrusted us with His resources.

God’s storehouse is the local church

Jesus said He didn’t come to abolish the Law but to fulfill the Law.

Jesus also showed us we are supposed to give everything we have to God and that God wants our all – our everything!

Jesus didn’t tell the Pharisees not to tithe but He said they needed to do both and from their hearts!

the first reason we give is because God is a giver and He commanded us to give!

2.God wants to be #1- First in our life – all of our life.

God’s math is different than our math.

Start with Him, then work with the rest and see how God works. Be consistent.

We also can’t be foolish with our spending and expect God to bless that.

Why would God give you more if you aren’t currently honoring Him with what you have?

People will say, "well when I have more I will give more." That usually isn’t the case – if you don’t start now and learn to trust God with what you have now, you usually won’t trust Him later.

It’s not equal giving (dollar amounts) …it’s equal sacrifice (10%).

The first fruits are the first of what we have – the best of what we have – not the leftovers that didn’t get allocated somewhere else.

When we give last, we are saying that our priorities are more important than God’s and that we can handle the money better than God or we want to stay in control.

It’s a faith issue, a control issue, a trust issue.

3.It guards against materialism

Luke 12:22-31

God said to seek His kingdom first then all of these things will be given to you!

Give God our first and our best.

4.Giving to God is an investment in eternity

Luke 12:34

When you give to the local church – you are giving to God’s mission, and you are making a difference

God said, your treasure is where your heart is.

If we aren’t careful our treasure, our identity, is placed in things – cars, homes, name brands, etc.

you are never more like God then when you are giving and when you are loving.

Trust Him in all we do – even when it doesn’t make sense (or cents) or add up. His math is different.

He owns it all – manage what He gave you well.

Give your worry to God – Follow Him and put your full heart and trust in Him and He will take care of you!
