Jesus Who? - Week 1 - Pastor Nick Grim
Last week we looked at prayer and when we looked at prayer and we learned that: Prayer asks Jesus to take control of everything
If you could describe Jesus how would you describe Him?
Dominate Thought: Jesus is filled with grace before creation.
John 1: 1-5 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
Jesus was not created he was at creation because he is God
Why does this matter? https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/genesis-1/
Jesus is the creator of life and harmony
John 1:6-13 "There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God."
The 3 Responses to Jesus:
1. Don’t Recognize
2. Don’t Receive
3. Recognize, Receive, and become part of His family
My hope is that after these coming weeks:
--If Jesus is here we would recognize him, not but what he would look like, but by what he does
--You will be able to say I will live my life in one of these 3 responses
--You'll know more about the King of the Universe
--Your faith will be affirmed
John 1:14-18 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known."
Jesus was there when the law was given to Moses.
Jesus defines the law in the new Testament.
Jesus shows us law but he shows us truth and grace.
1 Peter 1:18-21 "Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God."
Jesus knew he was going to be the sacrifice before the world began.
Imagine that before you had kids, you knew that they were going to forget who you were and when you walked back into their lives they didn’t recognize you, they wouldn’t thank you for life, they wouldn’t listen to your wisdom, they would live selfish lives without you, and would never speak to you. Would your desire for kids be the same?
Jesus is filled with grace before creation.
