Prayer - Pastor Nick Grim
Last week we ended our 30 days to live and we were reminded that Life is a battle and death is victory in Jesus!
This week we are going to focus a little on one thing: Prayer
One of my favorite bible teachers is Dean Trune: “To not pray is to live life like an Atheist”
Main point: Prayer asks Jesus to take control of everything.
Have you ever been in a place where you had no control of a given situation?
In life we seek to have control:
--Income
--Life Style
--Health
--Family
--Relationships
--Reputation
When we don’t have control, what do we often have? Anxiety.
Philippians 4:4-6 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything
Don’t be anxious about anything?
Matthew 6:25-32 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
Jesus followers are not to be anxious
How do we get rid of anxiety?
Philippians 4:6-7 But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
When your anxious turn to:
---Prayer-Ask
---Supplication- Plead Humbly
---Thankfulness- Be Grateful
Often in anxiousness we are forgetting what God has already done
Have you ever looked back at what God has brought you through?
Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
When we pray we put God first and His Kingdom first and then there is little to worry about. How do we do that?
Matthew 6:9-13 “Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
1. Praise His name
2. Pray for His kingdom
3. Pray for His will
4. Pray for our needs
5. Pray for forgiveness
6. Pray for humility and for forgiving others
Matthew 6:14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Really don’t forget to pray for those that sin against you
You can’t control:
--God
--His Kingdom
--His will
--Your needs
--Who needs forgiveness
--Whether or not you are forgiven
Then you will remember who is in control
Prayer asks Jesus to take control of everything.
