Get Ready... For Change

We all like the status quo, the familiar, routine, the norm. We all resist change, mainly because we like the known, even if what we know is not very good or doing anything useful. In our minds it is easier to just keep doing what we are doing the way we are doing it. Walt Disney took his company through a lot of changes, from short black and white silent cartoons, to talkies, to full length feature cartoons, to live action nature shorts, to television, to live action movies, to theme parks. Every change he made was resisted in some form and not just by the public but also by the people in his own company. Today, fifty years after Walt’s death the company continues to change as it moves from traditional hand drawn animation to computer animation, acquiring established brands like the Muppets and Star Wars, and redoing areas of it theme parks to reach the next generation. Change is inevitable. The key is discovering why we do not like change, and learning what changes to resist and what change we need to embrace as we move forward in life, and in the life of FOTC.
