Going Deeper is designed for use with your small group, a friend, or on your own. Its aim is to create time for you to spend with God and his word. Do as much or as little as you like.
1. Pray for the needs of your Life Group, for our church and our leaders, for personal and corporate renewal, and to allow God’s word to transform us. Share a recent entry from your Life Journal with the group.

2. This Sunday, the message focus was titled: “Lord of the Sabbath.” The sermon looked at Jesus’ interaction with the Pharisees in Mark 2:23–28. What thoughts or questions did the sermon raise for you?

3. Read Luke 6:1–11 & Matthew 12:1–14. Compare these two passages with the account in Mark 2:23–28. How do the accounts differ from each other? How are they the same? What are the emphases of each individual book? What are the themes that all three of the books share with each other?
4. Read Mark 3:1–6. How does this passage fit with the passage in Mark 2:23–28? In these passages, Jesus is showing us that, even though we are to rest one day a week, that observance of rest does not mean we should ignore those in need. In what ways can we both observe a day of rest throughout the week, while also being willing to help others during that day if a need arises?

5. Read Hebrews 4:1–13. What does this passage tell us about the Sabbath, about rest? In what ways does Jesus make it possible for us to
enter into true rest with God? In what ways does the Sabbath rest we observe on earth reflect the eternal rest that we have with God on
account of the life and work of Jesus Christ?
6. Take a moment of silence to consider how God is speaking to you
through this message. Is God asking you to make changes or to do
something new? What concrete steps of response do youwant to take?
Do you need to change how you think about who Jesus is? And how might
this change the way you feel about current circumstances and/or the
future? How can your group support you in this?
