TODAY'S MESSAGE: "Promise Made. Promise Kept."

Today's Scripture passage: Luke 2:11

It’s easy to make promises. The hard part is keeping them—especially when they cost us. Thankfully, God never breaks a promise. But we never know what it might look like…
NOTES FOR TODAY'S MESSAGE:

1. What does the angelic appearance to the shepherds teach us about our God? (v.8)

2. What do we learn about the Jesus by the titles the angel gave Him? (v.11)

Savior (John 3:17)

Christ/Messiah (Acts 10:38)

Lord (Luke 6:46)

3. What are other examples of Jesus being understood to be the Christ/Messiah?

• As Jesus called His disciples. (John 1:41-42)

• The confession of Jesus’ disciples. (Matthew 16:15-16)

• At Jesus’ trial. (Mark 14:61-62)

• As Jesus’ followers proclaimed the Gospel. (Acts 17:2-3)

• The way we understand placing our faith in Jesus. (Romans 10:9)

4. What does the Christmas Story teach us about our promise-making/keeping God?

5. What does the Christmas Story teach us about what God’s promises may look like?

6. Who do you believe Jesus to be? (John 11:25-27)

REFLECTING & RESPONDING.

When has a promise cost you? When have you kept a promise? When have you broken a promise? What’s a promise you need to make or keep today?

What promises has God made you? In what ways has God kept a promise for you? What promise of God are you still hoping for?

When has a promise from God turned out differently than you imagined? What might that suggest about God fulfilling future promises?
