Dig Deeper
1. What, or who, do you think of when you hear the adjective “mighty”? What images come to mind? What about the word “hero” or “warrior”?
2. God is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (in all places at all times), and omnipotent (all-powerful). Of these three, which brings you the most awe? Which one brings you the most peace?
3. Look up the definition(s) of the word power? How does a physical definition of power differ from that of a spiritual power? Which definition lends itself to one or the other. How?
4. What happens when we try to have power on our own? Describe a time when you tried to do something in your own power. How was the process for you, and how did it turn out?
5. Why is it difficult for us to give up “power,” even when it’s just a perceived concept of it?
6. Read Colossians 1:15-16. How does your mindset change when you understand that Jesus has complete power over everything? Why is it important to have a correct understanding of who He is when thinking about the power he has? How does trust play a role in this?
7. Sustain means to provide what is needed for someone, or something, to exist or continue. It also means to hold up the weight of OR to deal with or experience something bad or unpleasant. In light of all of these definitions, discuss how Jesus sustains you.
8. Read Colossians 1:17-19. Knowing that God sustains all things, including all relationships, describe how that changes the view of your role in different areas of your life, including your role at church, your marriage, your family, your children, and your work.
9. Read Psalm 28:7. How does God’s strength and power provide you with joy and thanksgiving? Why does it do so?
10. Read Colossians 1:20. Knowing that God has the power to rescue all people, does that change the way you share the gospel in your everyday life? If so, how?
11. What step can you take today to ensure that you allow Jesus to have all of the power in your life?
