Holiness
2 Corinthians 6:11 – 7:4
Accept A New And Clear Identity.
1. I belong completely to God and live to please and serve Him more and more because of Jesus.
2. Holiness is both an accomplished fact and an unfinished process. 1 Corinthians 6:11
3. Holiness is a gradual, ongoing transformation of my life.
4. I must cooperate with the Holy Spirit to become holy. Philippians 2:12-13
Don’t Become Isolated From Non-Christians.
1. I must avoid two extremes:
· Assuming staying away from unbelievers will make becoming holy easier.
· Trying to minimize or erase all the distinctions between unbelievers and me.
2. Scripture never asks me to shun or withdraw from unbelievers altogether. 1 Corinthians 5:10
Be Wise And Prayerful. 2 Corinthians 5:17
1. Does my culture or Scripture determine how I live my life before God? Scripture trumps culture.
2. If Scripture - not my culture - is my final authority, how can I apply it faithfully to my life today?
· When Scripture is clear and specific, I obey it.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10
· When Scripture is not clear and specific, I “do my theology.”1 Corinthians 7:39; 7:12-13; 10:19-20, 27
· When Scripture is not clear and specific, I accept the fact gray areas will still exist.
