Have His Ear

Have His Ear

Do you want more grace in your life? Things like kindness, beauty, generosity, forgiveness? Author David Mathis explains that tapping into grace is like getting a refreshing drink of water. We can turn on the faucet, but we're not the source of the water. Similarly, God has designed rhythms and habits of life that can connect us to the flow of His grace, but we're not the source of the grace. In Mathis's (very readable!) book "Habits of Grace," he groups these practices/disciplines into three categories: Hear His Voice (Word), Have His Ear (prayer), and Belong to His Body (fellowship, or community). Each week we'll explore a habit or two under each heading, as we seek a greater experience of God's grace in our lives.

Today we pray for:
Afghan believers to be protected from anyone hunting them down

Afghan believers who are isolated to have ways to safely access God’s word and connect with other believers

God to be at work in the hearts of Muslim extremists to draw them to Jesus

Make it regular
Start with Scripture

Talk It Over

Visit npberean.org/grow-groups for more resources or to connect.

Treasuring God: What do you think God thinks about your prayer life? Read 1 John 5:14-15; how does that change your view?

Being Transformed: What is our view of prayer? How should we see prayer in light of verses like Philippians 4:6, Ephesians 6:18, and Psalm 145:18?

Loving Others: Asking for a prayer request is often a great way to love and open up someone to a conversation about Christ. Who’s someone (who is not a Christian) whom you could ask/offer to pray for?

Pursuing Unity: Galatians 6:2 calls us to bear one another’s burdens. How do you do at this? Where does prayer come into play?

Next Week's Sermon

As we conclude this brief series, we'll turn our attention to a habit of grace rooted in community (Mathis calls it Fellowship). It's a means of grace that is difficult to practice and perhaps even more difficult to receive. What is it? Join us next week to find out.
