Luke 14:25-35

In this passage of God’s Word, we see Jesus speaking to a crowd. He tells them what it really takes in order to be His disciple. By taking a look at what Jesus said, we too can learn:

What it takes to follow Jesus:

1. Prioritizing God above all else
Luke 14:26, Matt. 6:33, Rom. 12:2, Prov. 16:3

2. Dying to yourself
Luke 14:27-33, 9:23, Gal. 2:20, Phil. 1:21

3. Committing for your entire lifetime
Luke 14:28-35, 1 Tim. 6:12, 2 Tim. 4:7, 1 Cor. 9:24-27,
Acts 20:24, Heb. 12:1-2, Phil. 3:13-14
Reflection Questions

1. How well do you prioritize your relationship with God above all else? Think about what’s really important to you. Is there anything (even if it’s a good thing) that ever takes priority over your relationship with God? Why is that? What’s the history behind that? What’s stopping you from prioritizing God all the time?

2. Jesus calls us to bear our own cross and come after Him. How can you do that better? Are there certain aspects of your life that you can better die to yourself, and hand over to God? What are they? Have you ever felt convicted to hand them over to God before? Why? What happened?

3. If you applied your major takeaway from Jesus’ message in this passage of Scripture, how would it change your relationship with God? Think longtermly: What could your relationship with God look like decades into the future if you choose to constantly prioritize God above all else? Who can keep you accountable to the change that you need to make in your life?

Groups

We believe that our faith grows best when we surround ourselves with other believers. That’s why we encourage everyone to be a part of one of our groups, where we can intentionally share our lives with one another. There is a Sunday School group meeting on Sunday mornings before Service at 9:30. Our small groups are also in the process of starting for the fall. If you would like to be a part of one, please reach out to Pastor Josh.
