Signposts are in effect promises that serve a purpose by keeping us heading in the right direction. They also remind us where we are headed and that we aren’t there yet. The first covenant was good and full of purpose as a signpost. The new Covenant is complete and final.

1. The Day of Atonement pointed toward six hours on the cross.
2. Temple pointed toward heaven.
3. Levitical priests pointed toward Jesus as the high priest.
4. Sacrificial system pointed toward Jesus’ complete and final sacrifice

And it is this fulfillment of these signpost promises of the First Covenant that God ushered in a New Covenant not based on the blood of bulls and goats but his Son our Savior Jesus, not mediated by faulty priests who eventually perished but a perfect one who will never stop interceding. And...not written on a tablet but spoken into our souls.

It is a “how much more” movement of God.

14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God! - Hebrews 9:14

God, through an ever deepening relationship with us, works inside out to
clear our conscience of guilt and unworthiness through forgiveness.
replace all of our shame-based and self-centered motives with ones that are based on love alone.establish our identity as children of the Most High who will never be left or rejected.

I pray that the Holy Spirit will consume your hearts so you may know and believe. For all that we do are simply signposts pointing toward a reality that will change your life. His name is Jesus.
