Church on a Mission - Week 7 - Hospitality, prayer and meditation grant us peace in Jesus
Last week we continued our series of church on mission and we ended up understanding that Hope is maintained by focusing on our future with Jesus.
If we are to be a church on mission we must know how to restore community; Hospitality, prayer and meditation grant us peace in Jesus.
When you think of peace what do you think of? Weather, locations, solitude, quiet?
Philippians 4:2 I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord. Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.
---Euodia and Syntyche are not known people but to Paul they are of grand importance.
1. Sometimes we need to give hospitality
2. Sometimes we need to receive hospitality
3. Ask for hospitality
---Hospitality bring peace into peoples lives including your own
---Hebrews 13:2-3 Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Philippians 4:4-7 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
---Jesus can get rid of anxiety if you will give up control if you pray
---What you feel like you can control: Life, Job, Family, Money, Success, and Failure
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
---If we believe Jesus has all of the power how do we not take everything to Him?
---This is not a Jesus take the wheel moment though, this is what will help in those times we are trying to take control
Philippians 4:8-9 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
--- How we condition our minds affects our walk with Jesus.
It requires all 3:
Hospitality, prayer and meditation grant us peace in Jesus
