Humans are caught in the frustrating cycle of hyperactivity and busyness. Our spiritual maturity is connected the art of living within God given limits. This discipline is painful yet freeing. Many times we must lament our losses. Today, consider the example of John the Baptist as he found his purpose within his God given limitations.

Discussion and Application Questions for Group Life Communities and Personal Study- John 3:21-30

Spiritual maturity is linked with our emotional health. Consider how you might integrate the spiritual and emotional dimensions of your life as you read this story.

Observe – Read the text several times, slowly, paying attention to the words, the repetition and the main ideas of this scripture. Check out other translations. What words or ideas capture your attention? What is the main thought or truth?

- What is the issue that disciples of John bring to him?

- Who does John say that he isn’t?

Interpret

- How do you think John developed his sense of identity and role in God's plan?

- Has there ever been a time in your life in which you felt jealous because someone else received recognition or promotion and you didn't? How did that make you feel?

- How are you handling the physical limitations that come with age or sickness/injury?

- How does John’s approach to handling his limited role help you to deal with the loss of recognition, health or influence? Have you ever considered your limitations as an opportunity to trust God more?


Apply

What limits do I need to submit to joyfully as God’s invitation to trust him?

What limits may God be asking you to break by faith so that others might know him and I might become the person God wants me to be?




This week let’s pray for each other that we will not be limited in our love for Jesus and others.
