BibleProject | Writings of John:
Join me in reading: BibleProject | Writings of John

1. John the Baptizer is sent to prepare the way for the Lord by getting the people ready. How is John preparing the people? Who is someone you would be excited to meet and how would you get ready?
2. John had a clear understanding of who he was and what his purpose was. Do you have that kind of clarity in your life? What are some issues or events that caused you confusion or have given you clarity?
3. John states “I baptize with water, but He (Jesus) will baptize with the Holy Spirit.” What is biblical baptism? What is similar and different between being baptized with water and with the Holy Spirit? See Matthew 3:16-19, Matthew 28:19.
4. What is John’s attitude towards Jesus (read v. 27)?
5. In your own words, define sin.
6. Looking at verse 29, what is the significance of what John says, and how do these words still impact you today? What does it mean that Jesus is the Lamb of God?
7. Knowing that Jesus came to take away sin, what led you to first realize that you were a sinner? What were your thoughts and feelings when you first realized you were forgiven? Talk about when your eyes were opened to Jesus as your Messiah.
8. How can the message that Jesus came to die as the Lamb of God be a message of hope?
9. What would it look like if the gospel radically took root in your neighborhood and community?
