Shoebox Sunday: Reaching across cultures

This is our annual shoebox Sunday and Matt is reflecting on the importance of reaching across cultures...

Locations & Times

As followers of Jesus we are called to cross cultures
Culture is "How we do things around here"
hey
hey

Our beliefs shape our actionscult

The New Testament church hit differences in culture very early on
The church decided not to make it difficult for people from a different culture
Crossing cultures has always been right at the heart of the Christian faith.
We have to learn to become culturally aware. No culture is necessarily better than another.
God never planned to create a mono-culture
A guiding principle has to be from 1 Corinthians 8, that we won't do anything that causes another brother or sister to stumble.
We are called to be one, but not the same.
Small Group Questions:

1. Have you ever been in a culture that was different to the one you grew up in and found yourself not understanding why people were acting they way they were?

2. Have a look at the culture iceberg. As you look at all the words there how might they be a window into some of the kinds of things that are uniquely Australian?

3. What would you see as the main differences between Australian and Nepalese culture? What do they mean for our church?

4. Why do you think God doesn't want to get rid of cultures?

5. Take a moment to listen to God's voice. If you are in a group then create some space for this. What is God saying to you about the amount of time and the ways that you stop and reflect?
