3 “Unnatural Shoulds” that Breathe Life into a Relationship
1. BE QUICK TO LISTEN
People naturally want to be UNDERSTOOD; but what we need is a desire to UNDERSTAND.
2. BE SLOW TO SPEAK
Resist the urge to DEFEND YOURSELF.
Rather than giving in to your DEFENSIVE INSTINCTS, cultivate the Spirit-driven desire to EXAMINE YOURSELF.
3. BE SLOW TO BECOME ANGRY
We all have natural-born anger that protects our own interests. But the kind of anger we want to cultivate is SPIRIT-DRIVEN anger which protects GOD’S INTERESTS.
“The self-reliant anger of man, even when directed against some wrongdoing, fails to recognize that mere human reproach cannot change another person's heart, and thus it does not produce the righteousness of God; nor indeed is such anger fully righteous itself.”
