A Place at the Table

A Place at the Table

Is it really worth it to let God's light and love penetrate into the hidden places of painful memories? When Jesus tells us that he has come to give us a full and abundant life, does that mean that all of life--past, present and future--can be impacted by his healing presence? Is his kindness really that capable?

Spiritual maturity is linked with our emotional health. Consider how you might integrate the spiritual and emotional dimensions of your life as you read this story.

Observe – Read the story several times, slowly, paying attention to the words, the repetition and the main ideas of this scripture. What words or ideas capture your attention? Where are words repeated? What insights does the story teller give us about David and about Mephibosheth?

Interpret

- Why do you think it is difficult for Mephibosheth to think well of himself? What happened? (Check out also 2 Samuel 4.4).

- What about this story underscores the danger of being emotionally unhealthy? How does even something good happening to us reveal how we really feel about ourselves?

- What do you think is the importance of David's full inclusion of Jonathan's son? Why do you think it is mentioned

Apply

- How have the wounds of the past impacted your present? How have you protected your wounds?

- Can you imagine Jesus inviting you to the table...even with your own brokenness? What does it feel like? How do you respond?

- What could it mean for you when Peter quotes Isaiah 53.4-6 when he writes, "By His wounds we are healed." 1 Peter 2.21

- Pray for each other fervently this week, and for the entire church.

Thank you for continuing to take an interest in the people in your group. How can you follow up with group members this week? How can you pray for them?
This week let’s pray for each other that we may experience the victory of Jesus in the midst of our daily challenges.

Remember:

Four Principles for Living the Missio Dei:
*Share in life with people who do not yet know Jesus.
*Inspire others to know and follow Jesus by living your faith attractively.
*Grow with others in your faith and obedience.
*Serve others with sacrificial love.
