DISCUSSION GUIDE
Use these questions to reflect on this week's message as a family or group.
1. It is hard for us to understand the family structure in the Old Testament. What are your thoughts when you read Genesis 16:1-6?
2. We all make mistakes and find ourselves in difficult situations. When we read about broken lives in the Bible, how can we find encouragement in them?
3. In Hagar’s story, she comes to the realization that God is aware of her broken situation. Read and reflect on Genesis 16:13. Have you ever felt like God did not see or care about your situation? How do you remind yourself that God sees and cares?
4. Despite the situation and all that happened, God would have a plan for Hagar’s son. Read Genesis 16:18-21. Do you believe that God has a plan for your non-traditional family? What expectations do you think you may need to release so that you can embrace God’s plan for your family?
