Identity: Your Identity Is Who Jesus Says You Are
· One of Satan’s greatest tricks is to get you to believe your identity is different than what God says it is
· His attacks often come in the form of negative thoughts and internal accusations (2 Corinthians 10:5)
· We must stand in the truth of who Jesus has made us to be – the identity He has given us
Identity: You Are a Competent Peace Maker
· The Corinthian culture was a very litigious society where people gained status through taking others to court
· But our heavenly culture is a culture of peace, humility, turning the other cheek (Romans 12:18-20)
· Our identity as a Christ follower is that we are just, fair, wise like Jesus – we have the Holy Spirit in us
· Our identity as a Christ follower is that of a humble servant
· If we stand in our identity in Christ we will deal with disagreements, misunderstandings and points of contention with other believers in a different way than our culture does
Identity: You Have Been Made Righteous
· Christians sin, we are not perfect
· The Corinthian believers are guilty of some, if not all, these sins listed
· Christians sin – but that is not our identity! Our identity is that we are righteous!
· Paul is saying to live in your identity!
· Living in our identity is the best way to live here on earth
· Living in our identity also brings great reward in the life to come (1 Corinthians 3:12; 2 Corinthians 5:10)
