1. Why do you think God provided multiple Gospels about His son? Matthew, Mark, and Luke begin with the events of Jesus, but John begins with the definition of Jesus Himself.
2. Read John 20:30-31. What is John’s purpose in writing this Gospel?
3. In your own words, how would you describe Jesus?
4. Read John 1:1-5. It’s easy to think about Jesus, the man, that first comes on the scene at the time of the gospels, but what do we learn about Him through these verses?
5. What do you think John meant when he called Jesus "the Word?" Why is this significant? WORD (Logos): God’s logic; His mind, will, and attitude.
6. In John 1:1-3, what things does John declare to be true of the Word? Pastor Josh emphasized this truth – Jesus is the eternal Word of God.
7. This passage includes several allusions to creation. Look up Hebrews 1:2 and 2 Corinthians 4:6. What do you see?
8. What do the symbols of life and light tell us about Jesus? How has he brought these qualities into your life? What area of your life do you need His life and light?
9. The word for life in the Greek is, “Zoe.” It is different from “bios” life (physical life). This is the definition of Zoe life, “The eternal life of God, the divine life uniquely possessed by God.
10. Read John 8:12. How does Jesus change us? Here’s the takeaway from the message: Jesus came to share His life and light with you. Discuss how this applies to your life.
11. If you are a follower of Christ, are you walking in the light of Christ? Is there an area of your life that you need His light and life?
12. Who can you share the light and life of Jesus with this week? Spend time praying for them, invite them to church and invest in their life.
