Introduction
46 An argument started among them about who was the greatest of them. 47 But Jesus, knowing their inner thoughts, took a little child and had him stand next to him. 48 He told them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me. And whoever welcomes me welcomes him who sent me. For whoever is least among you—this one is great.”
49 John responded, “Master, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he does not follow us.”
50 “Don’t stop him,” Jesus told him, “Because whoever is not against you is for you.”

3 Things to Take Home
Jesus is patient

2 Peter 3:9 - The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

Following Jesus requires humility

C.S. Lewis says, “True Humility Is Not Thinking Less of Yourself, It's Thinking of Yourself Less.”
Proverbs 3:5 - “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Luke 18:14 - I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Following Jesus leads us to action/service

Mark 10:45 - For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
The Philosopher Jesus: Answers for Life
Luke 9: 46-50

Prayer Requests:

Read aloud Luke 9:46-50

1. Jesus shows his patience throughout the Gospels. How else has God demonstrated His patience with humanity? In what ways is Jesus patient with you? How does this fact give you hope?

2. Jesus gives the disciples (and us) an object lesson in humility. Often we consider words like humble & meek to mean weak in the bible, what does biblical humility look like? How do we remain humble in a culture that stresses the individual?

3. Jesus demonstrates through His life the importance of service and Kingdom mindset. Where is God leading you to serve? What is keeping you from serving in God’s Kingdom?

4. Jesus explains that it isn’t about “me”. We are to put first the Kingdom of God. What area of your life are you putting before God?

Family Time:
Discuss the idea of having a “Kingdom mindset”. Discuss the fad of “WWJD” bracelets. Explain having a “kingdom mindset” is putting Jesus and the kingdom before your own desires. Discuss how as a family you can stay focused on the Kingdom. Pray that God reveal His plan for your family and the area that you can serve.
