Dig Deeper
· What stood out to you most in this week’s message?
· Read Psalm 42. This psalm is extremely honest. The writer expresses his struggles and longings to God in various ways. Why is this kind of honesty in prayer important, and what does it actually accomplish?
· What condition is the psalmist experiencing in Psalm 42:1-2? If the writer himself is likened to a deer, what do the dried up “streams” represent?
· In Psalm 42:9, we see the Psalmist ask very honest questions to God. Do you think it is important to be real with God?
· Psalms 42 (42:5, 42:11, 43:5) points us to the true hope we can have in the midst of trouble. What is that hope and how does the Gospel of Jesus help deepen our understanding of that hope?
· What theme do the following verses all share? 1 Peter 4:12, John 16:33, 2 Timothy 3:1
· Why is it important for us to process our suffering and trouble times through prayer?
· Read Philippians 4:6-7. Have you ever felt a peace in the middle of a turbulent time that did not make sense to others (or a peace that surprised you)? How would you try to describe this peace if someone asked?
· Read Philippians 4:8-9. What is Paul encouraging us to think about?
· What steps could you take the next time you feel doubt or disappointment in God?
· In what way could you "put your hope in the Lord" the next time you feel discouraged?
