Evangelism Tool #3--Dollar and a Quarter

Take a dollar bill out and a quarter (if it is yours, it is even better)

Explanation: The dollar represents God, and the quarter represents us as people

Green= Godliness

Silver = Sin

The bible teaches that God is Holy and that we must be holy to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. So, people try different things to try and achieve this.

1. People try to remove their own sin. They try to remove all the sin in their lives. It is like taking a stone and trying to scratch all the silver off the quarter. Would you like to try?

Do you think it will accomplish the task? Will removing the silver from this quarter make it turn into a dollar bill or even change colors to look like the dollar bill? Of course not!

In fact, it will have the opposite effect. By defacing the quarter, you have made the quarter not even worth a quarter. It is bruised, beaten, and appears worthless. That is what happens when we read the ten commandments. It shows us that we are not like God and that no matter how hard we try or beat ourselves up, we are just not like God. The truth is, that quarter is silver to the very core. It is what it is. So, as the quarter is silver, as humans, we are sinners.

2. People also try to color the quarter with green marker (good works). People think that they can cover their bad deeds with good deeds and make it all ok. The problem is, God knows you.

If you were to take a quarter and color it and take it to a bank and try to exchange it for a dollar bill, the banker is going to just look at you like you are crazy. It isn’t worth a dollar. In fact, he would want to know why the quarter is all scratched up and colored green. What have you done?

God would ask you the same thing. What are you doing? You cannot earn your way into heaven. If you could earn your own way into heaven, then Jesus died for nothing.

3. There is a way! In John 14:6, Jesus said, “

So, what must we do? The bible teaches that Jesus’ blood is the covering for the sins of the people. God sees us naturally through the blood of our DNA. We are sinners. We know it! He knows it! And our DNA is all over the evidence of our sin.

Jesus’ blood can cover us so that God sees us spiritually in a new light. He sees the DNA of His Son instead of us in our sin.

4. So, if we take the Dollar (God) and we wrap the quarter (the sinner), we still see the shape of the quarter but the color of the Savior.

We are still there, but we are covered by the blood of Jesus. The coolest part of all of this is that you used to feel worthless and alone, but now you have Him with you always and your value has gone way up because you are In Him!

5. Do you want a relationship with God through Jesus as Lord?

You can have that relationship today by declaring Jesus to be Lord with your mouth, asking Him for forgiveness, and asking Him to make you His child today.
