V29 And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming

1. There is no one like Jesus.
Matthew 17:2 NASB
And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.
2. Resist the temptation to idolize a moment.
- Mountain top experiences are great, but you can’t live there.
3. Listen to Him.
- I know you can hear me but are you listening.
4. The Bible is filled with His glory.
2 Peter 1:16-21
For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such a declaration as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory: “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased”— 18 and we ourselves heard this declaration made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
19 And so we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture becomes a matter of someone’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Prayer Requests:
Group Discussion:
Read Luke 9:28-36
1. Have you ever thought what it would have been like to be one of Jesus disciples? Do you think experiencing moments like the transfiguration would increase your faith? Even after this moment Peter denies Christ and had seasons of doubt, can you relate?
2. Do you think the purpose of Moses and Elijah’s visit was to encourage Jesus or the disciples? Moses never got to step foot into the Promised Land until this moment, does that hold any significance?
3. Share an important mountain top experience in your life. Have you ever been tempted to idolize that moment or reproduce it? Have you met someone who is reliving the success of their past? What advice would you give them to help move forward?
4. God speaks audibly and tells the disciples to listen to Jesus. What part does listening play in your daily prayer life? Have you made listening to God a priority? Peter says we have the more sure words of the Bible to hold on to now. Take some time to read Jesus words out loud, as a suggestion you could start with the Sermon on the Mount. Matthew 5,6, and 7. Luke 9:18-27
Family Time – This week as your sit around the table with your family read Luke 9:28-36. Ask each person to share about their favorite vacation and why it is their favorite. Share about how Peter wanted to extend this moment with Jesus, Elijah and Moses. Discuss how the ordinary moments of life are just as important as the great experiences.
