Romans 12:9-21 ESV

Last week we learned: Christians serve in and with the church
This week Romans 12:9-21: With Jesus’ help we can overcome evil with good!
Romans 12:9 "Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. "
---Have you ever been given bad advice?
This week I just want to answer the question: How are we supposed to live?
Romans 12:10: "Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor."
---Have the attitude that other people matter
-------Invite people to a meal
-------People need to know your a Christian
Romans 12:11: "Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord."
---Give Jesus your all
Romans 12:12: "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. "
---Slow down and pray for the good and the bad
---What would a relationship look like if you only talked about the bad?
Romans 12:13: "Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality."
---If they are our family than we should treat them as such.
Romans 12:14: "Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. "
---You will be persecuted
Romans 12:15: "Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep"
---Christians are sympathetic and empathetic
---Show up.
Romans 12:16: "Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
---You are not better than anyone else
---Authenticity matters
Romans 12:17-18: "Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all."
---Stop getting in useless arguments
---How's your conduct on social media?
Romans 12:19-20 "Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”
---Love even when it hurts
Romans 12:21 "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

With Jesus’ help we can overcome evil with good!
