Jesus is asking for the people to be “all in”.
Context is key to understanding what Jesus meant by saying “eat my flesh” and “drink my “blood”
:
Short Term Context - John 6
Long Term Context - Jewish history
Help for today - Hope for tomorrow is what it boils down to.
Promises for those who “eat my flesh” and “drink my blood”
Truth
alythes (truth) - conformity to reality or actuality; often with the implication of dependability. The word appears 57 times in the New Testament. 19 times in John and 10 times in Revelation. Interpretation? John was highly interested in describing how Jesus was truth!
1:9, 3:21, 3:33, 14:16, 15:1, 17:3.
14:6 - “I am the way, the truth, and the life - no one comes to Father except through me.”
This word is dependable. You can take it to the ‘bank’.
Life
Five times in 9 verses (51, 53, 54, 57, 58) Jesus promises that he will give eternal life for those who are all in.
Not only talking about a heavenly existence but abundance.
Jesus says that he is the bread for our daily needs and eternal home.
But how do we eat flesh and drink blood? ABIDE
