It is many times extremely difficult to know exactly how to help when we see someone in need. In this passage of God’s Word we see Jesus answering the question of what it looks like to love your neighbor as yourself, through the parable of the Good Samaritan. Through Jesus’ teaching we get the example to:
1. Notice and have compassion
Luke 10:33, Eph. 4:32, Col. 3:12, Gal. 6:2, 1 Pet. 3:8, Matt. 7:12
2. Holistically care for the immediate need
Luke 10:34, Matt. 15:32-39, James 2:14-26
3. Sacrificially provide for the need
Luke 10:34, 1 John 3:16-19, 1 Pet. 4:10
4. Allow God to transform you
Luke 10:33-35, Eph. 5:1-2, Rom. 12:1-2, 2 Cor. 5:17, Gal. 2:20
5. Keep the end in mind
Luke 10:37, Matt. 25, 2 Tim. 4:7-8

CHURCH FAMILY NEEDS:Pray for Sam Bely who broke his left index finger and had to have surgery on it. Pray for Brittney Savill who broke her toe. Also pray for Patty Ewing as she recovers from her knee surgery. Pray for Luis Caban who has been infected with T.B.
MISSIONARIES: This month pray for the Mishkins in Israel.
FAMILY OF THE WEEK: Each week we’ll pray for a different family in our church. This week pray for the Erdels.
HILLSIDE HAPPENINGS: Pray that the church would continue to stay unified under Christ. Pray for our livestream and for the people joining us there. Pray that God would use us to bring His Kingdom here. Pray for the various building projects and workdays that are going on right now. Pray for our transition back into the sanctuary.
CURRENT HAPPENINGS: Pray for the current health pandemic in our world and in our country. Pray for medical staff and for our leaders as they navigate how to best help. Pray for students, teachers, administrators, and all other school staff as they head into another school year.
Reflection Questions

1. How do you typically respond to those who you see who are in need? After seeing how Jesus answers the question of who is my neighbor, are you proud of the way that you typically respond? Why or why not? What excuses typically stop you from helping in the way that Jesus portrayed the Samaritan helping the man in need. How can you respond in a more God-honoring way than you typically do?
2. As we talked about the example of the Good Samaritan, were there any needs that you feel God leading you to help with? Have you ever felt led to help with that before?
3. How would keeping the end in mind help you to better love your neighbor as yourself?

Please remember, no offering plates will be passed; instead, we ask you to give online or via the giving box near the entrance. Tables are set up in the back row for families with young children. Because of CDC updated its guidelines, we are no longer be asking people to wear a mask and social distance. However, if you would still like to do either, we completely respect that, and we are asking for everyone to respect that as well. No one will judge you for your decision, either way (see Romans 14).
Open Sorting Hour at the Foster Closet

Want to help out at the foster closet but can’t commit to helping regularly? That’s ok! Every Friday from 12:30-1:30 is an open sorting hour. If you’d like to help during the open sorting hour, please text Tammi Fisher at (216) 526-9974.
Workday - August 14th

Thank you to everyone who came out to help at the workdays so far. We truly appreciate your help. We will be having another workday this Saturday, August 14th from 9am-12pm. Any and all help is appreciated! Also, if you have any time on Monday, August 9th from 9am-5pm that you would like to help out with the ongoing projects, please let Pastor Josh know. We would love to have your help!
Building Changes

Starting August 15th, we will be having our worship services in the sanctuary, instead of the gym. This will mean that we will start using the center entrance as our main entrance once again. Also, the east wing of our building will be the new kids’ ministry area.
