When is a Person Forgiven?
(Acts 9, 22 & 26)

The Conversion of Saul of Tarsus
Forgiveness isn't in Conviction

Two types of conviction by Saul:
Conviction of Determination

Murderous Threats
Zealous of God
A Strict Pharisee
Forgiveness isn't in Conviction
In order for Paul to proclaim a message of forgiveness, he must first know how forgiveness is granted.

Two types of conviction by Saul:
Conviction of Devoutness
Forgiveness isn't in Conviction
In order for Paul to proclaim a message of forgiveness, he must first know how forgiveness is granted.

Saul is now:
Blind
Fasting
Paying
Acts of repentance, remorse, grief
Forgiveness isn't in Conviction

What does forgiveness bring?

Acts 8:8 So there was much joy in the city.
Acts 8:39 And he went on his way rejoicing.

Forgiveness is Offered in Cleansing

Ananias' reluctance, and yet he...

Restores Saul's Sight
Repeats Saul's Commission
Requires Saul's Immersion

Forgiveness is Offered in Cleansing

Why do you wait?
Rise up!
Be immersed!
To wash away your sins

Why does Saul need his sins washed IF he was forgiven at the point of his belief?
Forgiveness is Offered in Cleansing

IF Paul didn't believe in the necessity of baptism, why did he say it, teach it, and perform it?
Forgiveness is the Start of One's Commission

Immediately: He proclaims Jesus in the Synagogues

He doesn't wait until he understands better.
Forgiveness is the Start of One's Commission

Immediately: He proclaims Jesus in the Synagogues.

He gains attention in a surprising way. Those who were Saul's allies are now his enemies. Those who were Saul's enemies are suspicious.
Forgiveness is the Start of One's Commission

Saul is Confirmed as a redeemed, pardoned, forgiven brother in Christ by Barnabas. This leads to: peace in the church and edification in the church.

Whatever God has forgiven, needs to be forgiven by the church.
