Sovereignty in Uncertainty: A Study in Habakkuk - Week 4

Sovereignty in Uncertainty: A Study in Habakkuk - Week 4

The Book of Habakkuk can give us hope in the midst of trying times and answers many questions people ask today: Can I question God? Why does God allow evil? Does God ever bring evil to justice? Habakkuk wasn’t afraid to question God, and God’s response gives us — as it did Habakkuk — reason to worship and to trust in God’s sovereignty.

Sovereignty in Uncertainty: A Study in Habakkuk - Week 4
Trusting in God’s Sovereignty in Uncertainty (Hab. 3:1-19)

Habakkuk ends his book with a psalm of praise, despite the suffering about to be endured. How can we have the same hope in times of uncertainty and continue to worship, in spite of everything going on around us? Will we, like Habakkuk, be people willing to pray the prayer of revival when life gets tough?
5-Minute Nerd-Out
Jeremiah's Prophecy and the Fall of Jerusalem
This is a prayer and response of faith, acknowledging that the God who Habakkuk just had this interaction with was fully in charge. He was capable of not just declaring His will, but He could then ensure every aspect of His will would take place. In the midst of uncertain times, Habakkuk found comfort in the sovereignty of God.
When life gets tough, Habakkuk shows us that we can still be standing in the end.

When the terrain is tough, when the climb is very steep God has equipped us to tread on the heights.
Most people respond in one of three ways when things fall around us:

1. The cynical/critical response
2. The carnal response
3. The self-preservation response
Habakkuk shows us a fourth option:
A response of Revival Prayer
Rodney “Gipsie” Smith - The Prayer Circle
When asked about what was needed for a successful revival, Gipsy replied: “Go home. Lock yourself in your room. Kneel down in the middle of the floor, and with a piece of chalk draw a circle around yourself. There, on your knees, pray fervently and brokenly that God would start a revival within that chalk circle.”
- Adapted from Mark Batterson’s book The Circle Maker
No circumstance and no one can stop God from starting a revival inside your circle — except you.
We will see three things if God starts a revival in your cirlce:
1. An awareness of a great and glorious God
2. A conviction in our hearts of sin, according to the character of God
3. An awareness and a desire to see all people come to know Jesus --a desire that all people come to life in Christ!
4. A boldness to proclaim the story, the grace, the glory, the Gospel of Jesus
