Ephesians 1:11 HCSB
• God created you for His pleasure.
“Our Lord and God, You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because You have created all things, and because of Your will they exist and were created.” (Revelation 4:11 emphasis added)
“For Yahweh takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation.” (Psalm 149:4 emphasis added)
You’re here so that you can get to know and love God. (= worship)
• God created you to be a part of His family.
“He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favor and will …” (Ephesians 1:5 emphasis added)
You’re here so that you can live life with others. (= community)
• God created you to become like His Son, Jesus Christ.
“For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers.” (Romans 8:29 emphasis added)
You’re here so that you can become more like Christ. (= discipleship)
• God created you to serve Him.
“For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10 emphasis added)
You’re here to serve God by serving others. (= ministry)
• God created you for a mission.
Jesus: “In the same way that the Father gave me a mission in the world,
I give you a mission in the world.” (John 17:18) [MSG]
You’re here to pass on the good news to others. (= be a witness)
The first Church and Christians fulfilled God’s purposes:
“Those who BELIEVED … were BAPTIZED and ADDED to the church ...
They JOINED with the other believers and COMMITTED themselves to the apostles’ TEACHING AND FELLOWSHIP …
they SHARED everything with each other and they WORSHIPED together regularly at the Temple …
and met in GROUPS in homes …
and every day the Lord added to their number those who were being SAVED!”(Acts 2:41-47) [NLT/LB]
Notice the specific order:
BELIEVE in His son, Jesus Chris
DEMONSTRATE your commitment to Him by being BAPTIZEJOIN the COMMUNITY of a local church family
COMMIT to regular corporate WORSHIPCONNECT to a Life Group FELLOWSHIPSERVE others in some area of MINISTRYBRING your family, friends and neighbors to a RELATIONSHIP with Jesus
