What is LoveKey Church All About?

Our name comes from the fact that we believe that the KEY to salvation (giving your life to Jesus, becoming a reborn Christian) is the revelation of how much God LOVES you. And the KEY to living the life He has for us is to LOVE him back. That’s why LoveKey Church is a local expression of a part of the body of Christ with a focus on creating a place, opportunity and atmosphere where all people can encounter God, align with His purposes in order to reign in life, and help others to do the same.
ENCOUNTER, ALIGN REIGN, HELP OTHERS DO THE SAME - easy way to remember it.
We believe the Bible is the word of God and we commit to be obedient to it with the leading of the Holy Spirit
We believe that marriage and family is God’s idea and His way of doing it is the right way and the best way. We want to see marriages thrive and families be healthy in Jesus. Because healthy families build a healthy nation - notice I didn’t say “perfect” families, I said healthy - whole in Jesus, reconciled in Jesus, redeemed by Jesus, focused on Jesus.
We stand for unity in the body of Christ - we can be diverse but not divided, and celebrate our different gifts and roles in the greater body of Christ. We really resonate with Jesus’ prayer in John 17 where he asks that the Father will make us all one as He and the Father are one so that the world will know that He sent Him. Our biggest evangelical tool is unity!
We want to help eradicate fatherlessness and shine a light on the crisis of cultural Christianity - South Africa has a physical fatherlessness rate of 62% and other forms of fatherlessness in the remaining percentage - it truly is a huge problem.
Cultural Christianity is where people grow up in a so-called Christian home or culture and believe that that makes them a Christian, when in fact it is very possible that the culture they’re in has adopted a version of God that is convenient, made it apart of their culture and they’re actually worshipping their culture.
We want this to be a multi-generational, multi-cultural church that lives to know Jesus and to make Him known.

Series: FOUNDATIONS

SERIES: ALIGNING WITH GOD
SUBSERIES: FOUNDATIONS
THIRD FOUNDATION: BAPTISM WITH WATER AND HOLY SPIRIT
MESSAGE TITLE: "WASHED"
hey

Ok, so the first baptizer baptized Jesus with water - total submersion- and then Jesus saw the heavens open up and the Holy Spirit descend upon him. It is clear that water baptism is something that registers in the spirit realm(Interesting side note: In the book of John, we see that after John baptized Jesus, and after Jesus’ chat with Nicodemus about being born again in chapter 3, that Jesus was baptizing people - did you know that?. And there even arose an issue about it among John the baptist’s disciples - but John tells them he must decrease and Christ must increase. It is interesting to note that it was water baptisms done by Jesus from this context.) So far in it’s first stages before Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection, water baptism is for repentance and we haven’t seen the baptism of Holy Spirit except for when he came on Jesus.Let’s follow the scriptures as they reveal things about water and holy spirit baptism

But we do see Jesus giving very specific instructions about how the disciples were to reach all nations with the good news and baptize people in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and he also told them that they will receive the Holy Spirit as their helper and that He will empower them to be his witnesses to the whole world.
The great commission and the power of the Holy Spirit go hand in hand - baptized in the Holy Spirit to be witnesses that baptize with water and with the Holy Spirit
In Matt 28 and Mark 16 and Luke 24 we find the well known and so-called “great commission”:

Now it was after this baptism of the Holy Spirit, on the day of pentecost, that the disciples started speaking in many different tongues/languages - you remember how we spoke about this on Pentecost Sunday - powerful. The spirit of God was poured out on many and made manifest to a melting pot of people from all over the known world. Now from this baptism of the Holy Spirit, Peter preached his first sermon. Let’s pick it up in:
Let’s stand still at water baptism for a moment:
From Peter’s sermon, a first time gospel message that brings people to conviction, we see the biblical pattern:
1. Repent
2. Get baptised
3. Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit - we’ll pick up on that again just now
4. Be added to the local church

We get four important pictures about water baptism from scripture which all confirm one thing: that water baptism follows repentance and salvation (our first two foundations) as a symbolic outward expression of the internal decision and change that has taken place - becoming a new creation in Jesus, the old is gone the new is come.
All of these signify the old life being dead and buried, and the new life coming into being

Confirmation:
WATER BAPTISM
Follows true salvation as an act of faith that it is an outward expression of an inward decision
Baptism is NOT a prerequisite for salvation - but I can attest that something significantly spiritual takes place when you do it.
Sensitive subject: infant baptism is not Biblical. Sprinkling water on an infant’s head is not a baptism. We do believe in baby dedications where parents present their child to the church before God and promises to raise that child in God’s ways. But it is not a baptism. Baptism follows salvation.
I believe one of the biggest lies in the church in general is the whole idea of baptizing infants. Because it convinces people not to get baptized when they do become truly born-again and they miss out on the powerful thing that happens in the spiritual realm in that moment. The registering of your salvation on the spiritual realm.
Baptism should be a full immersion to symbolize the full process of becoming a new creation.

HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM
Power, Fire, Manifestations, Demonstrations
Empowers to be witnesses
When there was unity, one accord
With the laying on of hands
John said Jesus will baptize with the Holy Spirit
Accompanied by speaking in tongues and praising God
Baptism is to be submerged, so we can see that to be baptized with Holy Spirit is to be submerged, fully covered by Him
Imagine your mind being baptized with the Holy Spirit so that it becomes the mind of Christ
At salvation we receive the fullness of God, the whole trinity
But the baptism of the Holy Spirit does seem to be a separate moment of a special kind of manifestation of the Holy Spirit in our lives which is usually marked by speaking in tongues.

From my own life, I can tell you that I was baptized with water long after conversion and after I had a revelation of what water baptism actually is. I realised that my baby baptism was not a baptism, even though it was a significant moment for my parents in that they made a promise to raise me in God’s ways. And so I was baptized in a pool at someone’s home. It was a significant moment and I remembered feeling a weight lifting off of me and a sense of freedom coming on me. Shortly after that my pastor laid hands on me and prayed for me to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and that it would manifest in tongues. It took me 2 weeks… I was nervous and unsure and didn’t want it to be fake. The breakthrough came when by faith I surrendered to the Holy Spirit. I needed to realize that this is not something I can or should try to control. It is something I need to trust Him with. He cannot manifest if I’m in the way. So the first sound came, then more and more and now I have a whole language that comes out when I pray in tongues, and it’s amazing to know my spirit is communicating things I don’t even understand to God himself.

Holy Spirit baptism happens by faith. Ask your maker to give it to you.

Summary:
Water baptism follows our salvation and solidifies and registers in the spiritual realm the decision we made to follow Christ. It is significant and important and brings a shift in our lives.

Holy Spirit baptism can happen at the moment of salvation, during or straight after water baptism, or a bit later. Your faith will determine to a big extent how and when that happens. But it can also be very spontaneous and should never be something we try to control.

The important thing is that we all realize and learn today that being baptized with water and with Holy Spirit is Biblical and powerful. It is not a prerequisite for salvation no, but it can mean that you don’t walk in the fullness of what God has for you.
