Discussion Questions
1. Which of the five “apple cores” best represents how you have understood your religious life: divine will, laws/ principles, self, mission, or relationship? Which has been most emphasized by your community?
2. Would you say that you are primarily seeking to use God to achieve some other desire, or is your primary desire God himself? How can you tell the difference?
3. Who or what has shaped your vision of who God is? Is your understanding of God primarily positive or negative?
4. Can you think of a time when you had a ravishing and beautiful image of God? What contributed to this vision? What in your life clouds your vision of God?
5. John Piper said, “The gospel is not a way to get people to heaven; it is a way to get people to God.” How were you presented the gospel? Was it bathed in fear, or in a positive desire for God?
6. Describe how you pray. Is your prayer life marked primarily by communication or communion? Is it a chore or a delight? What might help you engage prayer differently?
