Song Lyrics for Today

— KING OF KINGS —

Verse 1
In the darkness we were waiting
Without hope without light
Till from Heaven You came running
There was mercy in Your eyes
To fulfil the law and prophets
To a virgin came the Word
From a throne of endless glory
To a cradle in the dirt

Chorus 1
Praise the Father Praise the Son
Praise the Spirit three in one
God of Glory Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings

Verse 2
To reveal the kingdom coming
And to reconcile the lost
To redeem the whole creation
You did not despise the cross
For even in Your suffering
You saw to the other side
Knowing this was our salvation
Jesus for our sake You died

CHORUS 1

Verse 3
And the morning that You rose
All of heaven held its breath
Till that stone was moved for good
For the Lamb had conquered death
And the dead rose from their tombs
And the angels stood in awe
For the souls of all who'd come
To the Father are restored

Verse 4
And the Church of Christ was born
Then the Spirit lit the flame
Now this Gospel truth of old
Shall not kneel shall not faint
By His blood and in His Name
In His freedom I am free
For the love of Jesus Christ
Who has resurrected me
Chorus 1
Praise the Father Praise the Son
Praise the Spirit three in one
God of Glory Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings

CHORUS 1

(TAG)
Praise forever to the King of Kings

— WRITTEN —

By the power of Your blood
You have won my innocence
In the power of the cross
You've forgotten all my sin

CHORUS
Now on my heart, this word is written
Forgiven, forgiven
On my heart, this word is written
Forgiven, forgiven
No guilt or shame can hold me
I'm covered by Your mercy
On my heart, this word is written
Forgiven, forgiven

TURN: (2x)

VERSE
By the scars on Your feet and hands
Every trace of guilt is gone
In Your freedom, here I stand
You've renamed me, child of God
Yes, in Your freedom, here I stand
You've renamed me, child of God

CHORUS
Now on my heart, this word is written
Forgiven, forgiven
On my heart, this word is written
Forgiven, forgiven
No guilt or shame can hold me
I'm covered by Your mercy
On my heart, this word is written
Forgiven, forgiven

TURN:

It cannot be erased It cannot be undone
This is Your final word to me And I believe it
It cannot be erased It cannot be undone
This is Your final word to me And I believe it
It cannot be erased It cannot be undone

CHORUS
Now on my heart, this word is written

Satan's been at it for a long time...

The spiritual fight has been going on for as long as there have been believers on the earth. Hebrew Christians faced some real persecution in their lives. It came from both their own countrymen, fellow Jews, who regarded them as traitors, and also from Gentiles.

Christians in the New Testament had to deal with wolves in sheep's clothing, who were casting doubt on the truth of the Gospel.
What's different about this piece of armor?

So far, the five pieces of armor that we have considered are all ones that we as soldiers in God’s army put on in order to passively protect ourselves from the attack of our enemy, Satan. Other than the effort of putting on the belt of truth, and the breastplate of righteousness, and shoes of the gospel of peace, and the shield of faith, and the helmet of salvation, we are pretty much passive in our effort to protect ourselves from Satan’s attacks.

However, when it comes to the piece of armor we are considering this morning - the sword of the Spirit - it is a little bit different, because it is one we take up, for the purpose of actively protecting ourselves by attacking our enemy. It is an offensive weapon used for our protection.
Christ's Example

Who do we see actively at work in Christ’s life at this time? The Holy Spirit.
(Matthew 4:2-4)With the Holy Spirit working in the life of Christ, what did he use to withstand this first attacking blow of Satan? The Word of God.

(4:5-7) Another attacking blow by Satan, and again what did Christ use to withstand it? The Word of God.
(4:8-10) Last attacking blow of Satan, what did Christ use to withstand it?The Word of God.
(4:11) Remember the text from James that tells us to “resist the devil and he will flee from us”? Well, what do we see Satan doing here? He flees from Christ.
